Lesson 18 MS Excel

For the Lesson 18 assignment, we had to obtain price quotes for the brochure we created for our InDesign composite assignment. I went to 48hourprint.com to get my custom quote. For them to print my tri-fold brochure, which has a gloss finish, full color, folds, and a quantity of 500, it will cost $352.00
Getting a quote was really easy. If you want to order anything from brochures to vinyl banners to hangtags, you should definitely visit 48hourprint.com

Lesson 16: InDesign and Advertising Principles

This type of print ad is persuasive.  They are persuading the customer to buy shoes from ZU. The message of this ad is saying If you buy these shoes, men will fall at your feet. I like the design of this ad. I think it is pretty creative and will gain a lot of attention. I definitely think it is eye-catching, which is what they were aiming for. It is well-balanced. The tall buildings and the tall woman create a sort of symmetry. I really don’t see any improvements that need to be made to this ad. The only thing is that when I first saw this ad, I really didn’t know what it was for until I looked it up. Since the man’s eyes are looking up at the woman instead of at her feet, it makes me think that the advertisement is either for her outfit, smooth legs, or bold haircut and color. They needed to maybe make it more obvious that the ad is for shoes.

Lesson 14: Layout and Design Principles

here is a good example of layout and design..
It reaches its audience, which is for those interested in the Geospatial Innovation Facility at UC Berkeley. The appearance is very nice and calming. It has a lot of information, but with all of the picture placements, it really doesn’t look overwhelming.  The different categories, in which the information is grouped is very easy to read. There are ample margins which add an overall frame to each section of the brochure. The whole thing is very well balanced, also.

Here is a bad example of Layout and Design...

It is so extremely busy that it gives me a headache just looking at it. I do believe that it reaches the audience, but it has way too much information for such a small page. There are no margins at all and the graphics supporting the text just add to the mess. There really is no flow, either.

Illustrator Composite Project

For our composite project, we had to create a business log incorporating the skills we learned in illustrator. Here is my business logo... I love to bake, especially cupcakes. I thought it would be cute to make a cupcake business logo.

Lesson 13

Here is the personal logo I created for lesson 12. For lesson 13, we had to print and save it in multiple ways. We also had to watch the video tutorial (http://tv.adobe.com/watch/max-2008-design/working-smarter-with-photoshop-cs4-and-illustrator-cs4). and identify 5 things we learned about using Photoshop and Illustrator together.

Analyzing Logos

In class, we learned about logos, and what colors communicate to the consumer. We had to find three logos (text only, Text & symbol, and Text, Symbol &Product).

Text Only Logo
Coors is a brand of beer. Seeing this logo can make you associate it with memories, fun times, an event in your life, a person who drinks it, etc. From what we learned in class, color stimulates our senses, communicates about a product and has a subliminal reaction. The color red can be connected to high energy and excitement, therefore drawing the customer in to buy their product. Red also causes a chemical reaction in our bodies, causing us to breathe faster, our blood pressure to increse, sweat and increase adrenaline. The bold statement of the white text on the red background will definiately attract consumers.

Text and Symbol Logo
Pepsi is a tasty cola that has many loyal patrons. The small use of red in the Pepsi symbol causes excitement, but not too much. It is balanced out by a royal blue, which has many meanings. By using the color blue, you are communicating that your product or business is reliable, dependable, trustworthy and commited. Blue also has a chemical reaction in your body that works as a physical tranquilizer. It seems like the message they are trying to get to their customers is that the taste of pepsi is exciting and wonderful, and that it also creates a stress free environment when you drink it.

Text, Symbol and Product Logo
Sherwin Williams is a paint supply store. Their logo is eye catching and you can tell what kind of business it is just by seeing the logo. The Text is in blue which represents a loyal, calm, committed environment. You get a feeling of trust in their products. The red used in the product, generates excitement. After seeing this logo, a person might become excited about repainting a room in their house.
